The Santa Barbara Printmakers Summer Juried Exhibition is now on display at the Channing Peake Gallery located in the County Administration Building through October 11. The exhibition provides an opportunity for the public to experience contemporary printmaking through original prints. The printmakers featured in the exhibition are specifically invited to submit their work.

A free, public reception to celebrate the exhibition takes place during the monthly First Thursday Art Walk which runs from 5-8 p.m. on July 5. As part of the Thursday evening reception, at 6 p.m. master printmaker Sam Carr-Prindle will give remarks and make an award presentations. Awards will be given to the prints Carr-Prindle single-handedly deems to be exceptional pieces of art. Those selected pieces will receive special recognition as well as a cash prize. A Santa Barbara native, Carr-Prindle specializes in intaglio printing (etchings) and earned his bachelors in fine art from the Rhode Island School of Design before becoming a master printer at Paulson Fontaine Press in Berkeley. Carr-Prindle now works at Crown Point Press in San Francisco.

In addition to the reception on July 5, the gallery will present free public programming during the First Thursday Art Walks in both August and September. Finger Painting for all ages will take place at 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 2, followed at 6 p.m. by a reading series entitled Poems & Prints. At the reading, hosted by Santa Barbara Poet Laureate Enid Osborn, local poets will share ekphrastic poems written in response to the exhibition.

Free printmaking demonstrations will be offered from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, September 6. Local printmakers Claudia Borfiga, Karen Schroeder and Andrew Baker will share their processes for production, including techniques such as screen-printing, linocuts and gelli.

The Channing Peake Gallery is located in the County Administration Building at 105 E. Anapamu St. in Santa Barbara. More information on the show can be found here.
